The owner of a website that launched an attack last week against a consumer group that often does battle with the insurance industry is now calling the attacks and information he put on the site “just the tip of the iceberg,” and he denied he is working on behalf of anyone in the insurance industry. The site, ConsumerWatchDogWatch.com , which takes on Santa Monica, Calif.-based Consumer Watchdog, accuses the group of being a “pay to play” organization that generates millions of dollars for itself, and it contains several income tax documents detailing Consumer Watchdog’s legal fees and contributions made to the group. “I think they’re a total fraud.
MAPFRE Highlights 19.3% 2010 Latin American Insurance Market Growth

A report from the FUNDACIÓN MAPFRE, which analyzed 19 Latin American countries, concludes that the Latin American insurance market “achieved in 2010 a 19.3 percent rise in premium volumes compared to the preceding year, reaching €91.370 billion [$120.15 billion], confirming the “sector’s expansion cycle started seven years ago.” The report points out that all of the markets, except for Venezuela, achieved “nominal increases” in their premium volumes in 2010. However, four countries achieved significant growth: Brazil -39.4 percent; Peru – 42.0 percent; Chile 36.6 percent and Uruguay -35.1 percent

A website attacking a consumer group that often does battle with the insurance industry was launched on Friday, setting off more sparks in a roiling battle between proponents of two competing measures that Californians may see go head-to-head on the November ballot. Backers of one of the ballot measures, the 2012 Automobile Insurance Discount Act , immediately distanced themselves from the site, which takes on Santa Monica, Calif.-based Consumer Watchdog. “Our only interest in this is the campaign itself and having people read our initiative and understand what we’re doing,” Terry McHale, spokesman for the 2012 Automobile Insurance Discount Act campaign, said.
